My name is Austin Sears and I am currently a first year student in the Master’s Degree Programme in Ethnic Relations, Cultural Diversity and Integration with a major in Sociology at the University of Helsinki in Helsinki, Finland.
Quite a mouthful, eh? I think so. I’m originally from the suburbs of Chicago and attended undergrad in the city proper at Loyola University Chicago. In my time at Loyola, I majored in Sociology and minored in Urban Studies and Studio Art/Photography. I had a number of extracurricular experiences while at Loyola, including serving as Campus Outreach Director for ((dop)), Loyola’s student-run programming board, being a part of Student Community Board, Loyola’s student conduct board, leading Loyola 360 retreats as the first ever Team Captain, working as the inaugural Welcome Week Team Leader and running NIRCA races with Loyola Running Club, in addition to working at Loyola Preschool and in the photo lab as a student lab assistant. I also studied abroad at the John Felice Rome Center in the spring of 2011 and ran my first marathon that October.
